The AL FW20/21 collection reminds us to buy little, but choose better

Fusing tradition with modernity, The AL’s design ethos is one of elegance, timelessness and simplicity. “Buy little, choose better, and make what you buy last”. Deep in the Italian tanning district of Solofra, sisters Valentina and Simona Aleide source their leather carefully and consciously from the family tannery ‘Only Frank’. Founded in 1999, the business embodies the quintessential essence of ‘Made in Italy’ and represents a special place where Italian craftsmanship is brought to life.

The pieces echo the experiences that have shaped the two both personally and professionally, reflecting their choice to continually contribute to a future of slow fashion. Using only the finest natural leather treatments of Mimosa and Quebracho to colour their garments in rich earthy tones, they create pieces that are not only meaningful, but also ethical.

The 2021 collection looks to the future whilst keeping an eye to the past, intertwining their eclectic ‘know-how’ of traditional artisanal practices with their contemporary vision of sustainability. The natural landscape is closely tied with the evergreen and deep red trench coats and blazers, communicating the importance of making environmentally conscious purchase decisions.
