Interview with Cristiano Burani

Cristiano Burani

How was the brand Cristiano Burani born? What did you draw inspiration from in creating your collections?

The brand Cristiano Burani was born after years of work experience at important fashion brands like Blumarine and Versace by part of its designer. Its foundation came also after the designer won at the “Fashion Incubator” competition promoted by the the Italian National Chamber for Fashion and he was ranked among the top finalists at the “Who’s Next” competition sponsored by Vogue Italia.

The collections are getting inspiration from a series of feelings that mainly start from travelling memories, to be matched with an in-depth research and experimentation on textiles to translate the travelling experience into highly-sophisticated but marketable pieces.

What are the key words to describe the collections and their style?

Research, Innovation, Practicalness, Uniqueness, Timelessness, Usability and true Made-in-Italy Production.

If you could dress up a Celeb, who would be?

I have had the fortune of seeing my clothing pieces worn by internationally renown actresses and artists such as Madonna, Ariana Grande , Rachel McAdams, Halle Berry, Kate Hudson, Dita Von Teese, Gwen Stefani, Alainis Morisette, Kendall Jenner, but also by Italian artists such as Emma Marrone, Arisa, Chiara, Francesca Michielin… I love the union of my Fashion with Music because I consider them as two strictly connected forms of art: when I draw a new collection, I immediately associate it to a soundtrack or song.

I always find it very emotional when I see my clothing articles dressing up a “normal” woman as well, who is not a celebrity but who can show a great personality. It is always interesting to discover the passage from the runway to the street or from the dream to the daily life.

Any future projects?

The future is now: two years ago I also started to work as Creative Director at a Japanese brand, so I am often travelling to Tokyo. If on the one hand it is expanding my expertise and skills, on the other, this additional role is taking out a lot of time from my business activity. Probably, I will be designing a dedicated line of accessories and I am planning to consolidate the brand position on the Italian and U.S. markets with shop-in-shop retail points.
