The new S/S 2018 collection by Alberta Ferretti – launched during the last Milan’s Fashion Week – has taken a leading role among all top brands from Milan, including an extraordinary cast of world’s prominent top models.
The initial part of the catwalk show has focused on beachwear: black swimsuits to be worn at the beach or at night together with a leather bomber jacket, a blazer and parka, or with longer than normal jackets and men’s shirts.
Later on, the attention has been addressed towards a universe of light: all clothing elements are characterised by Lurex, lamé, maxi sequins that are scattered all over midi and long dresses, falling gently on the body.
The result is a summer, relaxed, chic but also sensual style, which is highlighted by waist-tied shirts and soft elements, such as feathers and the designer’s typical chiffon fabrics. In order words, Alberta Ferretti’s entire collection gets a romantic and shining character, offered by Retro embroidery works, as well as the different shades of Lurex. The colour palette is inspired by nature: a wild-berry Pink, a mint Green, a sand Orange. But the prominent hues remain Black and White.
Alberta Ferretti is thus presenting to us a true “show of softness”, by playing with a wide array of high-value fabrics and soft colours. According to Mrs. Ferretti herself, the new Contemporary woman likes to wear clothing articles made with valuable, soft and light fabrics, which can be adapted to the different contexts of an urban or of a beach lifestyle.
The designer’s selection of fabrics is also accurate: the two top elements are indeed a shining organza and Lurex fabrics, both representing a homage to the 1980s’ and 1990s’ styles. Ferretti interprets the desire for a change, a new sense of lightness to be reinterpreted according to the aesthetic standards of an adult, self-determined woman with a refined and not so obvious femininity.
