Entrepreneurs Francesco Viozzi and Sophia Liu founded OA Non-Fashion in…
With a strong focus on sustainability, Francesco Lorenzi founded De Siena in 2010, creating footwear that is both comfortable and practical, yet delicate and beautiful. Hand-crafted and woven from raffia yarn and embroidered with crystal and stone, the SS21 collection will inject something truly special and unique into the wearer’s wardrobe. Modern, comfortable and durable, the combination of the buttery leather soles and soft, durable Raffia makes for the perfect summer shoe. The neutral, sunburnt colour palette transports the wearer to the seaside, reflecting the beauty in detailed simplicity. Raffia is also naturally water resistant, meaning you can bask in the Italian sun at the seaside and not worry about droplets of water changing the shoe’s colour or structure.
The brand’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in all stages of production, with Raffia hand- woven and hand-knotted uppers manufactured in their own Artisan laboratory. Featuring fine leather insoles with delicately hand stitched raffia embroidery, each shoe requires over four hours to produce. This method of “slow production” makes a valuable contribution to the future of slow fashion, using only natural fibres with low energy usage and low wastage production. De Siena represents the fusion of tradition and modernity, where traditional craftsmanship is treasured, and forward thinking is prioritised.
