Inspired by Fellini’s unforgettable La Dolce Vita, Borsalino’s 2018 Spring-Summer collection evokes the slick ambience of the sixties, the decade that saw the aesthetic codes of the Italian lifestyle become part of history. It is the details that make the pieces special: exquisite as ever thanks to the skilled craftsmanship of Borsalino.
The men’s collection plays with decorative elements, reinterpreting the traditional Borsalino shapes in Ecuadorian straw. It ranges from precious caiman ‘vintage effect’ ribbon to jacquard geometric edging, from sartorial textiles layered and combined with accessories that symbolise masculine elegance, such as bow ties and braces, softening the classical style.
The Borsalino women’s collection redefines the concept of Sixties Couture, adapting it to daily use. Ribbons in brightly coloured caiman surround elegant Panama hats. Wide brims fit for a diva, available in fringed versions, dressed in contrasting stripes or matched with a foulard with a geometric pattern added to the traditional grosgrain ribbon. Black and white for two-colour hats with traditional shapes and for raffia decorations made in crochet embellishing the straw of an architectural wide-brimmed hat.
Baseball caps, cloches, berets and flat caps, also available in a version with 8 segments and a button, are the Borsalino fabric designs. Italian-made tightly woven linen and cotton create a camouflage effect in colour that enhances the three-dimensionality of the designs, while the contrasting topstitching underlines the geometry of the shape and the construction of the hat. The bucket hats, baseball caps and flat caps are also available in a unisex unlined waterproof version.
